General Trebuchet Questions
Last night, I ran out to defend Benowic and what I thought would be a short defense, due to our lack of defenders, turned into the longest keep seige I have ever partcipated in. I didn't time it, but it was well over 2 hours. While I was sitting there pounding away, some questions came to mind.
1) How do you fire more than 1 catapult stone at once? Can you? Arm, Load, Load, Fire didn't seem to work..
2) What's the advantage of using ice shots over catapult stones? They both seemed to hit for the same amount (Around 200ish). The difficulty became trying to make ice shots on the fly while preparing the treb for another shot. What makes ice shot worth the extra time of a combine?
3) I repaired the treb 3 times during the seige, the first 2 times it repaired to full, but the 3rd time it said that I made some repairs (didn't say that I repaired to full), but the treb's health bar didn't seem to go up.. Seems like that if the item's out of durability (unable to repair to full) it should tell you something along those lines.
4) What damage type are catapult stones/ice shots on? I regularly hit most folks for 200ish, but I would hit spiritmaster pets and hunter pets for 300-400ish. I even hit a few folks for 1k damage.. I'm guessing it had to do with their level, but I need to go back and check (I took a screenshot of one of them).
Groundassist worked like a charm. I had a earth wizard setting groundassist from the ramparts while I pummeled them. A few times we coordinated our attacks to get some folks dead. It worked pretty well. Overall, the treb was what allowed us to hold Benowic for so long, since it kept the enemy off of the doors. All in all, it turned into one big RP fest and I ended up getting around 8k for the night.

1) How do you fire more than 1 catapult stone at once?
Shouldn' be able to. Designed for 1 at a time.
2) What's the advantage of using ice shots over catapult stones?
Balls of Ice do cold damage rather than heat. Only an advantage if they are weak to cold. Same damage setting for both. If you want extra damage go Bullet.
3) I repaired the treb 3 times during the seige, the first 2 times it repaired to full, but the 3rd time it said that I made some repairs (didn't say that I repaired to full), but the treb's health bar didn't seem to go up.. Yes they have something like durability but I can't say that's exactly how it works. Basically between durability at hits they can last about 80 minutes. That's it. Previously they lasted only 40 minutes (current Ram lifespan fully repaired). They health bar doesn't auto-update on items.
4) What damage type are catapult stones/ice shots on?
Stones - heat, Ball of Ice - cold
(Edit: this is Badyanna)

Re: General Trebuchet Questions
If you enjoyed one with GT, wait till you get a spotter and work in concert with other trebs & wizzies! Sounds like you had a classic seige battle, relish it and remeber it fondly, most do not go that way, but the ones that do are sweet.
Sounds like you are crafting the ammo as you used it. That could increase your cycle time (Fire to Fire) as you spend time making ammo instead of aiming/concentrating on battle targets and the "flow". If you have time to spare during the Arm sequence, makes no difference other than a minor distraction.
Place as much, and as many different types, of ammo on the treb as you can. You can highlight the exact type you want to load, so you can "preload" them and then change your shot to match that one attmepts needs.
stones are cheaper to buy from vendor. Whether you choose fire or ice really depends on what resists the targets have up. I find greater damage against most pets with stones myself, but that ain't scientific. Your damages sound normal. You can use bullets, but you are hurling a bowling ball, so be sure your groundtarget is dead on. Miss by just a couple of paces with a bullet and you get no hit at all. Often times bullet damage is not great enough to justify the greater AoE of stones and ice, but that is for you to judge yourself. On the other hand, a caster sitting is REALLY hard to pass up a bullet on...
grapeshot wide area damage serves a great purpose if you use it as part of a charge (keeps casters heads down for those critical couple of seconds) or if you realy want to pester the support group on on the hillside that supports the rammers. Grapeshot from a single treb is normally dismissed as "tickling", particularly by the HP heavy tanks on the doors.
1K damage was a low level player in the target range. Just smile, cause they said ouch.
Once a seige engine starts "dying", repairs no longer do any good. If you are taking active damage from other seige or spells, repair your treb more often.
You didn't ask it, but a word of advice: a treb with only a small group of defenders and a 25+ group of attackers with rams is almost always a waste of 80 gold. A treb by itself does not swing battles to your side. It takes a good mix of multiple GT Aoe (treb/magi/archer volley) and strong defenders to protect against the stealthers inside to really make dropping a treb worth the effort.
