Hi, i was wondering when and where i would use volley? Im just a 42 scout atm and i have not used it one bit. Just wondering when it is useful. I know it shoots like 3-5 arrows at a ground target. When you use volley, does it lower the dmg that the arrows do sence you shooting more then one? |

I have only ever used volley during keep/tower takes. Usually I have somebody climb a wall or something and I /groundassist him/her, since an inf/minst can climb walls to find nice spots to put the gt. I like it right by a fop so I can mess up the enemy healer's power regain + interupt them. Also good if you can place right by the door to the lord's room during a keep take that have PBAoE'rs right inside the door. Interupts them so the zerg can get in. Granted it works better if you are an earth wizzy, since volley is only a chance to hit a target. The damage is the same as firing a regular shot, but like I just said, it is only a chance to hit ONE target within the radius. |

Maybe. Haven't played my scout in about 2 months now. But I never recall ever hitting more than one target per shot, maybe multiples throughout the whole, but never per one arrow. Who knows, maybe I had the unlucky rolls everytime I used it. |

You can hit more than one target during a volley session, but I'm 99% sure you can only hit one enemy per shot during your volley. Atleast I've never hit more than one, and I've used it plenty of times during keep sieges. Another good use for it is when you are defending a tower or keep and the mids/hibs are beating down your door. Sometimes there are just to many enemies around waching the ramparts to safely pop out of stealth and crit someone. In those situations, put a GT down under the ram, run somewhere safe and start volleying. This also works wonders when you are defending the inner keep and the mids/hibs start putting down fonts in safe places you cant normally shoot. Get a GT at the font and start volleying away at the healers standing around it. Even if you might not get many kills that way, you will still get hits in and you will interupt their healing. And once in a while someone is stupid enough to keep standing there so you can volley them to death. Most of the time though, it will drive the oponents out of hiding from behind that wall to find a new spot since most people do tend to move when they start getting shot by arrows. When they run to find a new spot your fellow albs have a better chance to smite them back to the stoneage and since you've damaged them already you get some RP's for it =). Excellent, I was wondering when to use Volley. Does this skill rely on line of sight or is it just dependant on selecting a ground target within range? E.g. If someone places oil above the tower door and an infi puts down a ground target just behind the cauldron of oil, could I use Volley to continually bombard that area so that no-one would be able to pour the oil without getting hit? You can only hit one target per arrow unless your shot has an AoE damage effect, much like the braggart's bow level 10 /use2. Yesterday I was volleying in Hibernia, hibs were taking our tower and they were all huddled up in a corner outside, as they usually are.. I used my bow for the aoe proc and every shot I was taking seemed to be hitting 10-12 people/shrooms/FoP/FoH, etc. Was much fun. Volley requires no line of sight. You can set your GT and stand inside the Lord Room of a keep/tower and hit something with no chance of being hit back. I see many people volley within LoS of their target, or otherwise in a spot where they can easily be hit and it just makes me wanna cry. They best thing about volley is that you can be in a completely safe area when using it. Volley is great for just throwing a wrench into people's plans. It hits pretty hard and often if you've got a good ground target. the chances of killing someone at full health with several volleys is slim, but I've killed plenty of people before (usually just finishing them off with a blind shot) People tend to react harshly when they're hit with an arrow, and when hit with a volley shot, I see people panic and run from their seemingly safe spot to a place where they're an easy target. hehe I'm liking the sound of this skill :o) /makes mental note to use this at the first opportunity Any hints on how to best place the ground target? I'd like to think I'm quite skilled with using the ground target for Siege Weapons and stuff, would I use it in the same way? (Love the idea of /groundassist as I hadn't thought of it before. I'll need to macro it :o) Cheers Gus PS Thanks for taking the time to reply, its very much appreciated when I'm still finding my feet with this class. Q. Does this skill rely on line of sight or is it just dependant on selecting a ground target within range? A. It is ONLY dependant upon the ground target (GT) being in range. Limitations: The GT range works like caster range (i.e. the z axis counts as the range so being on a different level from your target REDUCES your range, regardless of whether it's higher or lower). Also, if your target is under a roof of astructure that is either not below 25% (like a CK or tower), or ina structure that can't be damaged, the volley won't hit them. However, you can be inside a completely intact structure and volley OUT (a favorite tactic of mine). :) Q. Any hints on how to best place the ground target? A. There are several good methods. I recommend all of the following: 1. Go to a friendly tower in the frontiers and play around with the differnet groundtarget ranges. For instance, from teh top of a level 8-10 tower, if you are standing right behing a corner parapet, a GT just at the edge of the wall (a favorite place for people to hide and set PFs) on the ground is about 800 units.Do this with different level towers, also, stand on the ground and get the range to the center of the top of the tower (to volley people running siege). If you have line of sight to an oil pot, target it and use /range. Then add about 30-50 units to your GT to nail the operator fairly reliably. I have an entire qbar of macroed GT ranges, from about 500 to 3000 (for siege) you can move your GT around while your volleying to 'fish' for targets this way too. Happy hunting. Cheers. Also, if I can't get a target or I don't feel like risking my neck in a siege situation to get one, shout out to see if another archer has ont.. or if you see another archer volleying, assist their groundtarget (/groundassist [name]) When you take someone's GT, it's not like taking a kill.. so don't feel like you're stealing RPs.. you're rarely going to outright kill someone with volley, so you'e helping if anything.. and it's so random anyway.. one of you can hit 5 targets and the other can hit absolutely nothing when using the same GT. It's all luck of the draw, but it can be fun! When you have 2-3 people volleying onto the same well-placed target, the damage can potentially be devistating. Try setting a GT in the middle of a packed Lord Room when taking a keep. Get 3-5 Scouts to volley from the floor below and you'll do some serous damage. Throw in a /use2 charge from braggarts and you can interrupt long enough for the rest of your realmmates to charge. Just some fun ideas for Volley, a very underrated and underused sill. /macro GRA /macro VOLL /groundassist %t Let's you target a player and make a ground assist macro for him instantly. 1 scout volleying a GT is an annoyance, 2 to 3 is crazy! I like to volley with the Immolated, as you can still release an arrow every 1 second...when I do volley... :P |

Nice tip, thanks Fewd. Any idea if theres any / command that would make a GT under someone you have targeted? Lamorak: Dinedar (Ranger), Nendarok (Warden), Lyndorion (Druid). Sounds a lot like my favorite /assist makeing macro. /macro assist /macro MA /assist %t Yes, I am very lazy and macro just about everything >.< I have the groundassist macro somewhere on my qbars, but it is very dusty since I used to spend all my time solo'ing in hibland seeing as how my comp detests anything more than 15 people within clip-plane at any given moment. |
