I have a cabby that i played a bit in the BG's and now he hit 50 and i took him to NF last nite. I went witht the 46s/25b/13m spec. but i keep seeing peeps talking about going tri-spec. Whats up with the AoE disease? I never used it in BG's, i would just debuff/nuke something..lol.. Is AoE disease that good? Isnt it just a DoT? Does it break AoE mezz? Should i cast that first on inc grp? Sorry if this seems like a newb question, but this is the first caster class i've played, i usually play stealther or a tank.. Thanks for any suggests/answers

AoE disease is good for a few reasons:
1) unbreakable snare (like 10%? 15%?)
2) halves heals on the target
and unless things have changed recently, the best part is:
3) no immunity timer
group cure disease has lessened the impact of disease in fights, but it's still an important tool for kiting, interrupting etc.

AOE disease is uber to cast on the train. It makes them easier to kite ( 5% snare component ) and it makes them tougher to heal. Any decent healer/druid will cast group cure quickly but thats one more slow casting thing you force them to do. If you're in a zerg you can also use the disease for RPs. It returns RPs on people who die just like Mezz.
Your spec is still a solid spec. I'd wait till I was rr6+ to think about trispec. You get more utility at the cost of some DPS.

Ok, so stay with my current spec and maybe switch over at RR6? Also my buddy plays a sorc (he is new to caster classes also..lol) so does the AoE Disease break mezz? if so, then i dont want to cast it and break his mezz..lol.. But thanks for the info so far

No. Single target debuffs do NOT break mezz, like str/con and base str debuff.

RE: @AoE Disease

anything that interupts breaks mezz, other than mezz itself and amnesia (as amnesia doesnt interupt, but it does break mezz).
it being casted or not as nothing to do with it:
BD insta LT, and insta resist debuff interupts, and breaks mezz.
anything that does damage breaks snares and root.
nothing breaks desease.
Desease does the following:
Snares by 15%
Reduces STR by 15%
halves all heals CAST on target by 50%, RAs NOT included, nor Lifetaps.
Please note Spreadheal is cast on the cleric/healer/druid itself, and therefore the heal is not affected by the tanks being deseased, however if the caster is deseased its halved. Also Nearsight has no impact on Spreadheal, due to its nature.

Basically:
Disease + Snare (Hi2u tri-spec Cabalist) >>>>>>> Tank trains
Since the majority of trains can't really be CC'd anymore you have to work on keeping them diseased / snared so they can at least be kited around and dealt with

disease is a much bigger issue on classic servers. no group cure unless your 50 rejuv or whatever the equivalent is.

Using the Cabalist AE snare is a waste. It gives root immunity. You are better off just dropping a disease and letting a sorc or a theurg AE root. Or just using single target roots.

wrong... they don't allways get thier roots off due to petting, train is on them, or what ever. Thats why i am there to ae disease then ae snare the tanks so who ever the train is on they can get away long enough to do their job or the tanks to switch targets.
