Can I charm a Sally at lvl 48
|
Once I am lvl 48, 48 light, and RR3, should I be able to charm a sally? Or do I have to be lvl 50 with the above same spec and RR to do so?

Definitely level 50.
Not only does each character level count more in the charming formula, but you'll also have another +1 on your spec level from being level 50. I'm in the same boat, just hit 49 with 48 in Light (though only RR2). I'd say 51 is about the highest you can go now, and even then it's going to depend on the mob.

oh ya, that makes sense.. need to be lvl 50 in order to be +13 at RR3

Definitely Lvl 50. I'll add my notes here just in case someone doesnt see them in the other gazillion posts.

What you can charm:
4 - humanoids
10 - humanoids, animals
17 - humanoids, animals, insects
25 - humanoids, animals, insects, magical
33 - humanoids, animals, insects, magical, undead
42 - anything charmable
Always use lowest charm to save power.
Safety level formula:
(level * .66) + (spec level * .33)
spec level includes: trainings, items, and realm rank
Mastery of Focus:
Mastery of Focus affects SPELL level. Notice that SPELL level is not included in the above formula. SPEC level is important. If you raise the lvl 4 charm up to lvl 20 it makes NO difference to what you can charm.
Current charm bugs:
- Porting has the chance to completely break your charm if there is a delay in porting. Pet will show up at portal location very very mad.
- Porting also causes your pet to completely disappear. Walk away and it should reappear. Maybe
NOT A BUG, working as intended
- Artifact chants (Cloudsong, Crown, etc.) will interfere and overwrite your charm.

- UNKNOWN CAUSE - charm breaks after only one resist.
- 1-9%Spell duration can worsen the single resist break problem. Over 9% duration will eliminate one-resist/break bugs. This 'fix' does not always work.

I've always wondered about this formula. Does it calculate the level at which you can charm something with a guarantee of no breaks? Because I've got a lvl 50 light 48 RR2.4 menti that can charm sallys with very few breaks. And I can charm lvl 50 gorgons and have had them break charm on me twice, never in combat. I'm all for pessimism for the sake of safety, but that formula says I should be charming lvl 48 mobs. *scratch*

um, you're calculating the formula wrong
Just to be safe i'll assume you only have like +6 light
which would be a
50(.66)+(48+7)(.33)= 51.15 safe charm lvl, safe meaning rare breaks, even a gray COULD break charm if you got really unlucky, but safe meaning safe enough for long term farming without having to /release every 10m
If you have MORE +light (which you should if you're charming) you're at 33+20=53 safe charm lvl, which covers sallys, among other things.

Im mana until 40. At 40 im switching to light so I can have an easier time farming scrolls and generally have an easier time ToA'ing out my toon.
Not to highjack the post, but any suggestions on RA's that can be used? Go ahead and assume RR2L5 so you'd have 15 RSP's to spend.

There are several charming formulas out there. The one I post is among the more conservative ones. Everyone has their own idea of what 'safe' is. Charming is not a black/white thing. Different creatures also react differently to being charmed. I have a heck of a time with a lvl0 frog in Ardee! You can charm a lot higher than what the formulas show, just expect to be smacked around now an then.
For RA's I'd pick up some power help, MCL & Serenity. Maybe Wild Power for the occasional crit. Power is what keeps ya farming. Try to charm a ML5 Perfector to follow you around.
