Saracen or Brighton? Slash or Thrust? |
03/15/04 11:26 PM |
Yea, I'm sure this has been covered many times, but what are the differences in the 2 different weapon skills, and witht he 2 different classes? I had a 21 Thrust Inf who was doing ok, but then I respec'd to Slash at 20 and did horribly low damage afterward. He was a Saracen with high dex, and fairly low STR. I've restarted him, and now I'm a lvl 6 Brighton Inf, specing in Slash. So I'm wondering a few things. First of all, should I restart again while I'm still low and use a Saracen? What should my stat point placement be like? And which weapon skill would deal better damage? (taking into account the possible DF nerf) And if it makes any difference, this character is for RvR. ---------- Jozif - 50 Reaver - Lancelot Veldak - 4X Infiltrator (in Leirvik) - Lancelot and several others... |

If you didn't figure it out already, the reason that your Saracen infiltrator did horrible damage, as you say, damage as slash is because slash damage is purely based on strength, and since Saracens have low strength... I personally prefer to go thrust for an infiltrator. You're less effected by constitution/strength debuffs, damage wise, that is, and your weapon skill will be higher, resulting in less (slightly, but it can help) defence from your oponent(parry/evade/block). And in any case, even if things go as everyone says, and the DragonFang nerf takes place and makes it a 5 second stun, it's still a fairly decent style. As a fair bit of people have been saying, it is better to have a stun, albeit shortened, then not at all. And as for your race selection, that really just depends on your personal preference. If you want to stay slash, then I would recomend staying as a Briton, as you have higher strength, but you can still do decently as a slash Saracen infiltrator. |

Well, I restarted him again, this time Thrust and Saracen again. I also noticed that weapon speed seems to be lower number = faster speed, which is not what I had assumed. I'm now lvl 6 again, and I'm hitting what I'd guess is about twice as fast as what my lvl 6 Brighton Slasher was doing. I don't know if I'm actually doing more damage er second, but it certainly feels like I'm killing faster. ---------- Jozif - 50 Reaver - Lancelot Veldak - 4X Infiltrator (in Leirvik) - Lancelot and several others... |

Well, since you've mentioned that your plan is for RvR, then it might help to take a look at resistance tables. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Thrust vs all hib armors - neutral Thrust vs mid chain - mid chain is vulnerable Thrust vs mid studded/leather - mid studded/leather is resistant Slash vs hib scale - hib scale is vulnerable Slash vs hib reinforced/leather - hib reinforced/leather is resistant Slash vs mid chain - mid chain is resistant Slash vs mid studded/leather - mid studded/leather is vulnerable ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Thrust looks to be the better weapon type in general for taking out tanks and support of both realms. Neutral on 1, strong to the other. Thrust will also make you strong against hib stealthers and bards, but weak on mid stealthers and savages/zerkers. With the reduction of DF to be a 5 second stun, you could easily back thrust down to 39, leaving you with a good side style for PvE, and use the points you WOULD have spent, to get DF, and sink them back into CS, DW, and venom. That ought to make the people crying about DF MUCH happier. Wonder if they'll start crying about the 25 point bleed from Dual Shadows next. Here's to hoping that all the crybabies choke on it. ----- This message will self destruct in 10 seconds ----- A military operation involves deception. Er...last I checked, infs don't get the 25 pt bleed. Only mercs do. Infs get an 8 pt bleed. I am a Gauntlet Adventurer.
I strive to improve my living conditions by hoarding gold, food, and sometimes keys and potions. I love adventure, fighting, and particularly winning - especially when there's a prize at stake. I occasionally get lost inside buildings and can't find the exit. I need food badly. What Video Game Character Are You? | |

Yep, only the low bleed. But hey, with the soon-to-be dragonfang nerf, im happy to always have been slash. I was aiming since i created to get 44 DW to compensate. Yes, people have been saying to me high DW is useless, but when i almost always hit with the offhand while styling, and soon to have a 7 secs stun 2nd in chain off EVADE, ill be better at damage AND have the better stun than thrusters. Dont wanna piss the thrusters here btw, that is not my intention, I contemplated for a long time between thrust and slash, better stun and weaponskill or better damage and styles, but now it seems all thrust will have over slash will be better weaponskill due to it being STR/DEX instead of pure STR, all the rest, damage, styles, go in favor of slash, and slash always had just like thrusters access to the 44 DW stun. But i have a feeling we slashers will get nerfed next, cause as long as DragonFang was keeping their attention, and wanting the nerf from the other realms, we deadly slashers were left unchallenged and unchecked. Now, with the only true weapon of the thrusters gone, i fear we are next to get nerfed. Wont make me change my play style though, slash/DW for the win :-) |

I am not 100% sure on this as the patch was a while ago but, DW had styles tweaked to benefit mercs but nothing changed for infiltrators as I recall. Just dont want you to get surprised Macder, but I think Hypnotic Darkness chains off Reflection which is still a PARRY reactionary so only Mercs can get the stun. Twin Return/Orbit or Dark Tendrils are the EVADE based Dual Wield reactionary styles. Dark Tendrils and Dual Shadows were tweaked for Merc only in the patch some time ago, Dual Shadows got a very high BLEED effect I know, cant recall what was adjusted on Dark Tendrils, may have been the bleed effect as well. Just to be sure, may want to check the old patch notes. Nothing wrong with your spec plan, just want you to be sure you are getting all you think you are with that spec. Regardless, good luck!!! |

Yeah, i just noticed that Ilark, its Dark Tendrils they made available to infils by making it evade reactive. My bad. EDIT: Its a good thing i have not specced beyond 25 DW yet :-) |
