Scale vs. RI (old old post)
GOAL:
Lots of talk going on about how great of an advantage it is to wear RI over Scale. All test results I have seen to date, were hardly an example of the real results. People claiming they see the difference in RvR, isn't conclusive. People using a BM for RI and a Champ for Scale isn't conclusive. People using less Slash resists on scale isn't conclusive.
What I wanted was raw data. As many variables controlled as possible, with nothing changing between wearing scale and reinforced nor between blunt & blade. Once things change between the tests, results are skewed.
SUBJECTS:
The Armor Wearer is...
Level 50 Firbolg Warden
Unbuffed
all slash & crush resist items moved.
This left racial resists of 3% crush & 2% slash. This would normally be another variable, but I offest this by having 1% slash imbued into the gloves of each set of armor.
The Attacker is...
Level 50 Celt Warden
Respecced to 44 blunt/44 blade
removed all +blade items
RR4 giving a final spec of 44(+3) blunt/blade
EQUIPMENT:
The weapons of choice were...
Arcanite Barbed Mace - 16.5 Dps, 3.0 Spd, 99% quality, enchanted (35% bonus)
and
Arcanite Crescent Sword - - 16.5 Dps, 3.0 Spd, 99% quality, enchanted (35% bonus)
This is the only variable in the test. The minimally slower speed of the weapon if anything would only serve to benefit blades anyhow.
The armor of choice is...
99% 102AF Heavy Cailiocht, 19% absorbtion, enchanted (35% bonus), imbued with 1% slash on gloves
and
99% 102AF Improved Osnadurtha, 27% absorbtion, enchanted (35% bonus), imbued with 1% slash on gloves
METHODOLOGY:
Testing was done to the equivalent of 5 bars of unbuffed health. Stopping at about 10% to heal full, then continue.
There were 4 tests initially; RI vs. Blunt, RI vs. Blades, SC vs. Blunt, SC vs. Blades. However, something unigue showed up and an additional , but not extensive test was done (more details later).
RESULTS:
Note: The AF in Scale was 640. The AF in RI was 599
RI vs. CRUSH
Attacks: 63
Hits: 55
Misses: 8
Avg Dam: 68.7 (+4.5)
Dam Rng: 57-80
Spd: 3.0
Dps: 22.9
RI vs. SLASH
Attacks: 64
Hits: 56
Misses: 8
Avg Dam: 57.5 (-8.6)
Dam Rng: 49-67
Spd: 3.1
Dps: 18.5
SC vs. Crush
Attacks: 105
Hits: 85
Misses: 20
Avg Dam: 49.7 (-7.4)
Dam Rng: 42-58
Spd: 3
Dps: 16.6
SC vs. Slash
Attacks: 77
Hits: 64
Misses: 13
Avg Dam: 63.0 (+4.2)
Dam Rng: 53-75
Spd: 3.1
Dps: 20.3
ADDENDUM:
That additional test....
During testing it seemed pretty obvious, that the attacker missed more frequently against scale. So just for kicks ran 2 more tests....
In 42 attacks against RI there were only 4 misses. After switching to scale there were 8 misses in less than half the attacks.
So it seems (though the sample is a bit small) that in Scale, you will be missed much more frequently.

Re: Scale vs. RI (old old post)
I know this test is old, but if you think about cost, you can get a MP suit of Reinforced for the cost of 99% Scale. I'm sure this will raise the AF and bring down the miss ratio, but this is only good if money is a factor.
From test I've tested with Reinforce, without the new changes to the styles which might bring some more crush users, shows it's better compared to Epic. But, you cry when you run into that Crush user, I think it drops the absorbtion down to 9%. But, most people use Slash and that makes the absorbtion 29% compared to 17% when wearing Scale.
Personally I liked Reinforced, but every so often you do run into a Crush user; then again how often do you really see a Crush user besides a Friar.
I'm definately going to keep an eye on this and let everyone know, when I get some more money I'm going to get a MP Scale suit (still using my Epic) and be able to do some REAL test.

armor crafting changes
I haven't checked prices since they made the change, but now that Scale armor is made in one step just like Reinforced, is this debate now moot?

Re: armor crafting changes
Scale armor is not made in one step now, you still need to get the leather armor, only thing that changed is you use Bars instead of scales, the cost is the same as before. So it is now 2 steps instead of 3. And they got rid of the step that was not only a minor hassle, finding a Tailor when you don't level up your own is still a pain.
