Hunter TL Report- June 2002 by Branin, Hunter Team Leader

I. Abstract

In order to support my allegations of a Ranger/Hunter melee imbalance, I conducted a series of lengthy tests with 2 other level 50 Rangers with Taco observing. The results are clear, Hunters as a class are inherently weaker in melee combat to Rangers due to a series of patch changes that had very subtle and far reaching effects. Eonaskub is the only Ranger listed in this report because the other Ranger, Kweian, had an even easier time defeating the Hunter in every test case (i.e. he was much more powerful due to Piercing's stun style).

In summary, a Hunter gains only a Midgard 2H bonus over a normal 1H weapon (estimated at 10-15%). A Ranger gains offhand swings via Celtic Dual, which triggers approximately 38-50% of the time for Rangers with 1-25 Celtic Dual Spec for an additional 30-40% extra damage over a normal 1H weapon. In addition, Rangers also benefit from a strong DPS-add that ignores AF and resists.

The first item of note is the effects of our respective resists against each other's damage types, and the effects of the melee relics. Because Eonskub is using blades, he suffers a -29% penalty overall to damage Branin. Because Branin is using a thrust spear, he suffers a -34% penalty to damage, but gains another +20% to damage from the relics. Overall, Branin will do 66% x 120% = 79.2% normal damage, or suffer a -21% penalty overall to damage Eonaskub.

Note: Once all resists and relics have been accounted for, Branin has a -21% modifier to damage Eonaskub, while Eonaskub has a -29% modifier to damage Branin.
Also note that Branin is max specced in Spear, giving him a 100-150% (theoritical 125% avg.) damage variance over base damage. Eonaskub is only half specced in Blades, giving him a 63-125% damage variance (theoritical 94% average).

Note: Branin has spent more points into weapon skills, and posseses a higher WeapSkill rating.

III. Summary of raw data

Eonaskub's dmg field includes his normal damage, his critical hits, and his style bonus damage.
All fields marked with a * indicate that no weapons procced. The dmg listed is entirely from the Ranger's DPS-buff.
Tests 7 & 8 were deliberately done without the Ranger's self-DPS buff. Tests 9-11 were done using player crafted 35% bonus piercing weapons, which Eonaskub only has 1+5 spec in.
