Snack Sized Grab Bag

Short and tasty, read on:

Q: I have three friends: one says he's doing ML3 at level 43 on his alt. Another friend told me that was [baloney] because the minimum requirement to finish ML2 is level 45. What makes things even more confusing is that I have a third friend who says that there's a solo step for ML6 that you can't even do until you're level 50. My question is, what are the real caps on when you can start and/or finish Master Levels in TOA?

A: This answer comes to us courtesy of the Content Underlord. He tells me "The minimum requirement to begin the Master Level track at the Arbiter is level 40. Once you are level 40 and you have spoken to the arbiter, you are eligible to complete every master level encounter.

"There was a bug that was resolved soon after release with one encounter that erroneously required players to be either level 45 or 50. This was resolved quickly, but it may well be where some of the confusion originally began to take place."

Q: My bonedancer seems to be bugged. She can only cast her commander and one minion instead of two.

A: This is not a bug, but a quirk of the rounding system. (More specific data on that next week, perhaps.) I see by your feedback form that you’re 43 – the one level that really feels this rounding quirk. From a grab bag last September: "Q: I am a bonedancer. When I went from level 42 to 43, I stopped being able to cast both minions in addition to my commander. What gives? A: What gives is a quirk of the rounding system. You can still have two minions, it's just that one of them needs to be a little lower level."

For a heap of good BD information (old, by internet standards, but still quite helpful), I recommend Sheena’s class guide, located at the Camelot Vault: Bonedancer Guide.

Q: I'd like to know if the bananach still exists in the frontiers. It's required for a step in the level 40 enchanter/bard epic, and I can't seem to find it in NF.

A: The Quest Goddess, she who commands the quest NPCs, spoke thusly: "The bananach can be found right in the middle of Emain and slightly east of the middle of Breifine."

Q: Where did the enamel dye merchant go from TNN?

A: We messed up – the enamel dye merchant should be up on Pendragon right now, and will go live as soon as we can move him there. I’m sorry for the inconvenience, and I appreciate you letting me know he fell through the cracks during the merchant reorganization.

Q: The cap of str is 300 without +cap bonus. If I get Aug Str 3 for an example and that WITH buffs gives me a total of 322 str. Do the Aug Str 3 (22 str) over 300 work fully as 22 points or do thay fall under the 300 cap rule and I only get 1 working out of 5 (or was it 10?)

A: Whoa. That was definitely one for the Code Warrior. "The Augmented Statistic line of realm abilities add their score bonus when the character's base, unmodified score is checked, so it is totally separate from item stat caps or spell stat caps. However, there is a hard stat cap of 450 for most ability checks so even if you somehow got your Strength to 472 (which, for most race/class combinations isn't actually possible) the game server would ignore anything beyond 450.

"Also, there isn't a "soft cap" like the questioner referred to (unlike skill specializations, which do have a minor effect past 50 for most). If s/he was able to get his/her strength to 322, they would get the full benefit for those 22 points.

"There are exceptions to every rule (for example, as most archers know, there's no benefit to archery draw time for increasing quickness above 250), but in general, Augmented Statistic realm abilities are, if not "exciting", definitely one of the safest bets when purchasing, and they will almost never run into "caps"."

Special thanks to the team leads and CSRs who proofread this explanation!
